Air purifier for smaller rooms: Whirlpool Whispure AP51030S

The Whirlpool Whispure AP51030S is on the expensive side, but it has proven itself to be well worth the price. Within an hour of switching it on, everyone in the house felt a significant difference in the air quality.

It may not be enough for large living rooms, but it’s ideal for bedrooms. The ‘sleep’ function is particularly useful. The machine automatically switches to a low level for 8 hours before going back to its previous setting.

Best part is, it’s so quiet. I’m a very light sleeper and I couldn’t hear a peep from the Whirlpool Whispure AP51030S, which stands about 2 feet from me. The Whirlpool Whispure AP51030S uses a true HEPA filter that traps pollutants as air passes through the unit. A carbon filter traps odors while a pre-filter catches dust and debris.

You’ll need to clear the pre-filter while the internal filter will need changing a couple of times a year. Filters are quite expensive but worth it.
It sucks the air in from the front and blows it out from the top. I found that to be a nice touch instead of having air blown at you. It also feels more hygienic this way.

I credit its dual filter system for going that extra mile in sucking dust out from the air. There is also an optional charcoal filter available for weeding out chemicals. Once you actually touch this machine, you’ll know that it was built to last. The only gripe I have would be the buttons, which are plastic bubble buttons. Feels a bit cheap to me, considering the price tag.

Overall, I recommend the Whirlpool Whispure AP51030S to anyone with allergies and pets. I saw some exorbitant price hikes online so try to shop around to find the best price.

The Whirlpool Whispure 450 is a good product priced in the middle range that outperforms a lot of other air purifiers in its class.

Pros:
• Very quiet machine, especially on low setting. After a day or two, it becomes ‘white noise’ and you won’t even know it’s there.
• Great performance. Everyone at home has been sneezing a lot less and able to breathe better.
• Efficient in removing dust and smoke.
• Convenient to move around. It weighs 32 pounds so it’s not too heavy to move around from room to room.
• Does not emit ozone.
• Blows air upwards instead of outwards.
• Has a filter light to indicate replacement of filter and pre-filter.
• Low maintenance – the main filter needs to be changed once a year and the carbon filter, 4 times a year. Whirlpool Whispure 450 is available online for more convenience.
• One year limited warranty, with the motor guaranteed against burnout for four years.

Cons:
• Filters can be a bit pricey, setting you back a hundred bucks or so. It needs to be changed at least once a year, or twice depending on how often you use it.
• Bland design. It’s a boxy, bulky design typical of most filters, which I think could be improved. Since it’s practically part of the furniture, I wish they’d give more thought to design and make it more aesthetically pleasing.

Conclusion:
Great value for its price, especially since it’s a Whirlpool. Whirlpool Whispure 450 works like a dream and has made everyone in the family a lot healthier and happier. The only gripe would be maintenance with expensive filter replacements. But you get what you pay for.
