Honeywell HFD-120-Q

Honeywell HFD-120-Q

Pros : Elegant design, top tier performance, 3-stage filtration system and oscillates quietly.

Cons : Smelly ozone and can’t shut down ionizer.

Elegant Design

It’s like a miniature skyscraper. Honeywell HRD-120-Q stands elegantly with its slim tower design, measuring at 28.7 x 11.2 x 10 inches and weighing at 14 pounds, a weight stoic and firm enough so as to not to be easily toppled over. Apart from taking less space, this tall, dark exterior appliance with silver accents looks a class above all that is sure a draw a stare or two. And that’s even before we talk about its performance.

Top Tier Performance

CADR rating of 110 and coverage area of 170 square feet is the perfect combination (rating of 2/3 of coverage area is advisable). As claimed by the product’s description, HFD-120-Q traps 17 times more contaminants than ionic air purifiers, and that’s simply a top tier cleaning agent if that claim is true. In addition, it regenerates the air of a standard-sized room every 12 minutes to provide a constant source of fresh air, especially important for sensitive habitants. Even if you’re not suffering from allergy, you’ll enjoy and cooled air delivered by air purifier.

Oscillates Quietly

The most exciting feature of HFD-120-Q is the oscillation system, where the tower turns from left to right to distribute clean air to a wider range. Most users are thrilled by this system as it achieves what it’s aimed to do – fresh air in every direction within its wide range. Another interesting point to note is the WhisperQuiet technology that keeps the noise level down at all 3 fan speeds. This ensures that you’ll have a quiet time resting in your room.

3-Stage Filtration System

  • Washable pre-filter – Like common air cleaners, this first line of defense traps large-sized particles like dust, mold and pollen before the air goes through stage 2. Not only does it increase the efficiency of HEPA filter but also save on your cost because the pre-filter itself is also permanent.
  • IFD HEPA filter – IFD (Intense Field Dielectric) eliminates 99.97% of microscopic particles of 2 microns like bacteria, viruses and allergens. The best part for laymen is definitely the permanent feature which saves time, money and your sleep.
  • Built-in ionizer – The ionizer releases negative ions that neutralize odor and chemicals caused by household uses like cooking and smoking. Besides grounding airborne particles for vacuum, ionizer can also freshen up the air. However, a user pointed out that the ozone emitted by ionizer has an unpleasant smell on the first day of use. Worse, the ionizer can’t be shut down, which means the ozone released may cause symptoms to the sensitive people.

Affordable and Low Maintenance

The affordable product price mentioned earlier is about $100. And with zero maintenance cost, this is bang for the buck for those with little to spend, but want to spend wisely and worthily. Externally, the tower design makes Honeywell HFD-120-Q state-of-the-art. Internally, the oscillation feature makes it one of a kind. All in all, that’s all you need.

If you’re looking for an entry-level buy to test out this appliance that’s small and compact and could easily be hidden if you somehow dislike it later, Honeywell HHT-011 is the one. But don’t get me wrong, though. While HHT-011 is indeed the best small air purifier, it’s not an appliance that you would want to hide. With a coverage area of up to 85 square feet and a CADR rating of 55 (rating of 2/3 of coverage area is considered good), its performance in a small room is guaranteed.

Honeywell HHT-011

Honeywell HHT-011

Pros : Placement flexibility, cost-saving permanent HEPA filters, 3-stage filtration system, 3-speed control and illuminated control panel.

Cons : Ionizer may emit ozone, noise increases with fan speed and bright control panel.

Placement Flexibility

As the coverage area suggests, Honeywell HHT-011 is suitable for places with limited spaces. It can be placed horizontally or vertically, with air delivery equally good on its side and base. This means that it’s versatile when it comes to placement, and with a dimension of 14.7 x 11.2 x 7 inches and weight of 6.5 pounds, put it on a desk, on a cupboard or on top of a shelf and shift it around whenever you like without hassle.

Permanent HEPA Filters

The first good that comes out of permanent filters is cost. Besides the initial cost of the product, the maintenance cost would be zero because you don’t need to replace the filters with disposable ones. Just clean them when indicated. As for the kind of filters – HEPA, it’s the standard type among air purifiers, trapping 99% of airborne particles of 2 microns and above like dust, pollen, pet dander and many more.

3-Stage Filtration System

  • Washable pre-filter – As the first line of defense, the pre-filter traps large airborne particles and in doing so, increases the efficiency and prolongs the lifespan of HEPA filters.
  • Permanent HEPA filters – As mentioned, these HEPA filters eliminate 99% of microscopic organisms including allergens, bacteria and viruses.
  • Ionizer field – Optionally switched on, this ionizer field reverses the charge of particles so that pollutants settle on wall or floor or furniture waiting to be vacuumed. If you’re aware that ionizer may emit the dangerous ozone which could cause lung problems, then just switch it off.

A user reviewed that its air cleaning power was not refreshing enough and that his allergy was still present. To solve this, another reviewer suggested closing all windows and door and then putting HHT-011 to full blast. Re-enter after a few moments and feel the breeze.

3-Speed Control

HHT-011 provides 3 fan speeds of low, medium and high. Knowingly, the noise level increases with fan speed. Therefore, unless you use earplugs when you sleep, a balance between air circulation efficiency and quietness has to be reached. A user complained that it’s loud as a computer, but how loud can a computer be?

Illuminated Control Panel

The indicators on top serve as fan speed control, ionizer activation and an electronic filter clean indicator that tells you when you need to do some maintenance job without having to mark your calendar. Besides, there’s a nightlight feature that shines soft illumination during the night, making sure you’re not distracted from your snooze. However, the ionizer signal is said to be very bright. Well, do yourself and the Earth a favor by switching it off.

Conclusion

Priced around $50, it’s about one-tenth of some air purifiers in the market. Though the difference in features and performance may be noticeable, the size and compactness of Honeywell HHT-011 are unbeatable. Good enough for first-time buyers with rooms of limited space.

The Honeywell Enviracaire 50250 is meant for small rooms of up to 374 square feet. We use it everyday and sometimes move it between rooms, since it’s such a small convenient size and weighs 22 pounds.

Honeywell Enviracaire 50250

It has been running about 15 hours a day, everyday for the last 5 months and is still working very well without the need for filter change.

Honeywell Enviracaire 50250 is very affordable for a HEPA air purifier and doesn’t take up a lot of space. It’s small, compact and round; nothing like other air purifiers resembling a tank. It has a permanent 99.97% HEPA filter that can be vacuum-cleaned and put back in the machine. This is so convenient and actually saves money in the long-run, since it eliminates the need to purchase HEPA filter replacements.

There is also a light indicator to let you know when it’s time for a filter change. The HEPA filter only needs to be vacuumed twice a year. It sucks a lot of air and blows cool air out, which is nice during summer when we’re hesitant about provoking our allergies by using the air conditioner or fan.

The downside is how noisy it is on the highest setting. I don’t mind too much since its benefits clearly outweigh the slight noise it makes. At least this way we know it works!
On low setting, it makes a soft, soothing noise similar to a fan. There are 3 speed options to choose from.

Honeywell Enviracaire 50250 is a great machine at an affordable price. I would recommend it for small spaces since it’s a small machine. The noise is a small price to pay for healthier living. Plus, it’s so compact and doesn’t require as much costly maintenance as typical air purifiers.
