We decided to purchase a furnace filter to further strengthen our ongoing war with allergens and pollutants in our home. After scooping around, we went with the 3M Filtrete Ultra Allergen Filter as it had received good ratings online.
3M Filtrete Ultra Allergen Filter
The 3M Filtrete Filter is an inexpensive and convenient way to rid your home of allergens.
It carries a high MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rating of 11, which is well above average (the MERV rating was designed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers for easy comparison of filters).
It also meets the American Lung Association Health House Indoor Air Quality Guidelines.
Since installing the 3M Filtrete Ultra Allergen Filter, my husband has been sleeping better and waking up without the usual sinus congestion. I’ve also noticed that there’s less dust settling stop shelves and books. I credit this to the filter preventing debris from escaping the furnace.
Being an allergen filter, it’ll keep the dust out but it won’t filter any odour around the house. You’re going to need an air purifier for that.
One thing to be on the lookout for, the 3M Filtrete Filter will affect airflow if it’s coated in dust and particles since it’s attached to the furnace.
Not a big cause for concern though. You simply need to consistently check that it’s time for a filter replacement and voila! say ‘hello’ to an instant improvement in air quality.
If you suffer from mild allergies, I recommend giving the 3M Filtrete Ultra Allergen Filter a go before splurging on an expensive air purifier. At least with this furnace filter, you KNOW you’re actually straining the dust and allergens that are coming into the house.
